Midsomer Murders at Stanlake Park
Quick call the police, there’s been a murder at Stanlake Park!!
Well not quite, but Stanlake Park did appear in an episode of the popular ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders in 2015 (Episode 4 of series 17), originally aired on 18th February 2015. Stanlake Park was renamed Midsomer Vinae as part of The Carnarvon Estate in the episode called A Vintage Murder and is regarded by many as the best episode of the series.
Filming took place in a variety of locations on the estate including the cellar, fizz room, bottling line and the courtyard by the coach house where the episode begins.
The first lines spoken were by William Carnarvon played by Paul Bonnar (Line of Duty etc.) who said “Kevin, I can see a lot of empty glasses; please make sure that everyone’s topped up. Good lad”. This is certainly a statement we like to hear at Stanlake Park when visitors are on one of the popular Wine Tours as we like to see glasses topped up too. However this is where the similarity with the tours end as the fictional wine has been poisoned and if you want to know more you’ll have to watch the whole programme.
I must admit that I’d never seen an episode of Midsomer Murders but as soon as I heard about this episode I found a DVD online and just had to watch it. After spending many hours bottling, labelling and disgorging, it certainly brought a smile to my face seeing these locations appear on my TV screen.
Midsomer Murders Tours at Stanlake Park
If you are a fan of Midsomer Murders and want to see the filming locations, make sure you book a tour online and while we hope there will be no murders this cannot be guaranteed, especially if you deliberately sabotage the winery as in A Vintage Murder. One thing that can be guaranteed is that you will get to taste some delicious English wines in a beautiful rural setting.
